What is a Goat?
A hardy domesticated ruminant mammal that has backward-curving horns and (in the male) a beard. It is kept for its milk and meat, and noted for its lively behavior. Many farms across the world raise goats for milk and meat. Goats need the same amount of care an attention as any other farm animal.

Did You Know?
Goat is social animal that likes to spend time with other goats.
Why is a Goat Called Billy?
An intact adult male goat is called a buck. A castrated malegoat is called a wether. An adult female goat is called a doe. ... The terms "Nanny" (female) and "Billy" (male) to differentiate the sexes are in general disfavor in "official" goatcircles.
Goat Diet
Your goats need the majority of their diet to be natural roughage from shrubs, woody plants, hay, tree bark, and more. The roughage they eat will most likely not provide them with all of the nutrients they need to maintain perfect health. It is probably going to be necessary for you to supplement their diet with a coarse grain like goat feed, corn, or another good grain product. Always have plenty of fresh water available for your goat. Their water intake will depend on natural factors such as climate and water content of their dietary intake.

Be careful feeding your goat too much corn. Giving your goats a diet that is almost all grain will make them develop kidney problems that is sometimes fatal. They may also develop a bloated stomach or become too fat. A goat must have a balanced diet that contains between 75% and 80% of their dietary intake from natural roughage providing plants. But don't just go let your goats out to mow down any plant and shrub insight. There are certain plants that will make your goat ill once eaten. See the list below.
  1.  Mesquite Pods
  2.  Azalea
  3. Wild cherry
  4.  Black walnut
  5.  Sheep laurel and Mountain Laurel
  6.  Juniper
  7.  Rhododendron
  8.  Ponderosa Pine
  9.  Yew
  10. Hemlock

Goat Shelter
You can't just leave your goats out to face the ever changing climate which can be quite harsh at times.  You must create a goat shed for your animals.  Shed needs to be created to keep humidity from falling on them, block out the harmful sun and of course shelter them from the rain and snow. One of the other factors your need to look at when creating a goat shed is it's capability to block out natural predators such as foxes, wolves, cougars etc.  For cold winter season, thick layer of hays can be placed inside the shed to provide some warmth for the goat.  Always ensure that even though you are blocking out predators, that your goat shed has plenty of ventilation.
Fencing
You need to install fences that the animal cannot squeeze through and cannot lift up to go under. Goats are notorious for sticking their heads through the fence and often getting their horns hung up in the fence.
You need strong fences with secure gates to contain these animals. They will often push against the fence like they are scratching their sides on the fence so having your fencing material properly secured to the fence-posts is very important.

Goat Grooming
Grooming goats is part of the natural care of raising these farm animals. The hooves of your goats may need trimming from time to time since the animal is not inside its natural habitat which would have allowed nature to handle this aspect.  You will need to learn to trim the hooves of your goats. Some owners place  rocks or concrete blocks in the pen with the animal to help them naturally maintain their hooves, but from time to time you need to inspect their hooves and trim off the excess.

You should check your goat's hooves once a week to see how fast they are growing. Each goat's hooves will grow at different rates depending on breed, diet, exercise and living conditions. I would say every 2 to 4 weeks is average for hoof trimming. But be careful, Don't get in a hurry and take big cuts, because that will cause the hoof to bleed. Stop trimming when the sole appears pinkish and all hoof rot has been removed. Goats hoofs are trimmed because over grown hooves can lead to illness.
Goat Sickness
Like any other mammal. Goats are prone to sickness and diseases as well. The best way to determine if you have a sick animal is to pay attention to their normal behaviors. Then when one of the animals begins to act differently from what they normally do you will be quick to notice the difference.
Some signs of illness in goats are:

• When they do not chew their cud
• When they refuse to get up
• When they are not eating like they normally do
• When their poop is solid or liquid instead of in pellets like it should be
• Walk and cry more than normal
• They stop drinking
• They begin to grind their teeth
• They have a limp
• They are staggering
• Their udders are hot to the touch
• They are coughing
• Their eyelids or gums are ale in color
• They have a runny nose
Conclusion
Goats can be fun animals to be around. Most have some truly unique personalities which can provide you with entertainment for hours. They are natures natural lawn mowers as they constantly graze and helps keeps the property free of over grown grass and shrubs. If you re considering getting goats as pets, milk producers, or to help maintain property? Caring for your new animals will be one of the most important things you do.

What Is A Pet?

What is a Pet
What is a Pet?
What is a Pet Answered.
A domestic or tamed animal kept for companionship or pleasure.  With that said, are all animals worthy of petdom? "Petdom" a word created by the owner and author of dogcatplace.com which means; to be classified as pet. Are all animals capable of providing companionship for us humans? I know that people find pleasure in many things and many kind of animals. But if an animal is not capable of companionship and only used for human pleasure in entertainment. Should that animal be called a pet?

Many people own what they call exotic pets. Animals that live in the wild and taken out to provide pleasure or entertainment for people.  One such animal is an elephant. Would you consider an elephant a pet? Can an elephant provide companionship as a dog or cat? Maybe not. But elephants are captured all over the globe and used as displays in zoos and for entertainment purposes in circuses.  Most time these animals are not shown any kind of love and affection. They are simply used for making profits.

There are certain animals which are not allowed as pets, yet still many of these animals are allowed as pleasure and entertainment animals.  You have animals such as:
  • Burmese Pythons. They are considered as one of the most important animal that cannot be kept as pets.
  • Wolves.
  • Wolf-dogs.
  • Alligators and Crocodiles.
  • Chimpanzees.
  • Large Apex Predators.
  • Monkeys.
  • Primates.
  • Seals
  • Dolphins
And many more. But if you to a sea world, circus or zoo. You will find these same animals in captive used for entertainment and profit. I am not saying that since these animals are locked up elsewhere they can also be locked up in our homes.  My point is that these animals have very sensitive needs and should neither be pet nor sport.
What is a Pet?
Aside from the online answer. To me a pet is an animal that is fully domesticated and is capable of the exchange of emotions and feelings between owner and animal. So in other words, not all animal in my book is capable of petting. Animals such as snakes, spiders, snails, crocodiles etc.
