If you want to teach your pet bird to talk, begin with slow clear speech to the bird. Things like; "What's Up, How Are You, Feed Time, etc." Don't try to pull off high level rocket science sentences as though you expect your pet bird to understand what Brobdingnagian means. Use these words repeatedly and slowly until you pet bird is able to manage them well. Then move on to few more words.
