If you thought that the eagle, hawk or any other large bird of prey was a bird not to be messed with, then you haven't met the pelican. Pelicans are large birds of prey which resides mostly in the water. Pelicans have a long beak and a large throat pouch used for catching prey and draining water from the scooped-up contents before swallowing.  The large, fibrous skin pouch that dangles from a pelican's bill is called the gular pouch (or, occasionally, the gular sac). This sac is not used to store food but to drain away water from scooping up fish or other water foods.
Pelican Diet
Don't be looking too small in the pelican's eyes. It just may mistake you for food! Pelicans have a very healthy appetite and are never picky eaters. Pelicans diet consist of but never limited to the following:
  • Fish
  • Birds (ducks, pigeons, etc.)
  • Frogs
  • Rabbits
  • Baby Crocodiles
  • Small Cats
  • Sea gulls
Pelican Life Span
Pelicans can live for 15 to 25 years in the wild and may live about 16-28 years in captivity.

Pelican Body Structure and Mass
Pelicans have a general wingspan of approximately 1.8-3.5 m as a full adult. They have a length of 100-140 cm. The American white pelican has a length of approximately 1.2-1.6m.

Pelican Gestation Period
Pelican will lay 2 eggs. The incubation period will last about 3 months wherafter the pelican chick hatch out of their eggs. The female pelican feeds her young until they are around 3 months old, although baby pelicans are usually able to walk and swim when they are about 2 months old.

Pelican Natural Habitat
Pelicans will always have their homes near to their main source of food which is fish. These birds typically live no more than 20 miles or so from a major body of water. Because they are carnivorous animals that feed almost exclusively on marine life, particularly fish. Coastal pelicans build their nests near the shore and also on small islands, while inland pelicans prefer forests and mangroves. In the Forest, the pelican will also feast on other small animals such as lizards, birds, etc.

Pelicans are mostly found in warmer regions of any land and can be found in but not limited to:
  • New Guinea
  • Australia
  • Fiji
  • Indonesia
  • New Zealand
  • America
Pelicans are Knock out Champions.
The brown pelican is a keen-eyed predator that can spot a fish swimming under the ocean’s surface even while flying 60 feet above. Its bigger cousin, the Peruvian pelican, also has great vision. Once a target has been spotted from above, the pelicans plunge into the sea bill-first at high speeds—and often from a height of several stories. When they collide with the prey, the impact force usually stuns the victim and it’s then scooped up in the gular pouch.

Pelican Natural Predators
Apart from us humans who hunt the pelican for meat and feathers. The pelicans are also eaten by large cats, wild dogs and coyote and large snakes.
Different SPecies of Pelicans
  1. Brown Pelican
  2. Dalmatian Pelican
  3. American White Pelican
  4. Australian Pelican
  5. Great White Pelicans
  6. Pink-Backed Pelican
  7. Spot-Billed Pelican

Would a Pet Wolf Bite You?

Picture
Yes, a pet wolf may bite you if not properly grown.
If your dog is as little as a 1% wolf-hybrid, you must handle it as an exotic animal, which comes with different restrictions based on the area in which you house your wolf. You're required to purchase a permit from the Department of Fish and Game if you own an animal that is 50% wolf. An animal which is of high percentage wolf has more wild in him and the chances of you getting bitten increases significantly.

What about the wild wolf, living in its own habitat that is involved in a wolf attack?
If a wolf hybrid of the proper generational level is your choice of pet, it's your responsibility as an owner to follow the laws and regulations of your area. Only reputable breeders should be considered when choosing your pet. Your pet's vaccinations must be up-to-date. Canine rabies vaccines might not be effective if administered to your wolf-hybrid. Most importantly, if your hybrid bites someone, the incident will be handled as a wild animal attack, not a pet attack.

Being attacked by an exotic animal like a wolf may entitle you to compensation. A dog attack lawyer can answer these issues using local dog bite laws, and the laws concerning a wolf attack. 38 fatal attacks occurred in the US last year; more than twice that amount were non-fatal. Misunderstood pets or dangerous predators? The responsibility of any animal's behavior is on the owner. Dog bite attacks are taken very seriously in by both local municipalities and state laws.

Aardwolf
Aardwolf Looking For Termites
Meet the new wolf on the block, or is it meet the new aardwolf on the block? Well with such a name you would think that the aardwolf is a cross between an aardvark, the devout ant eater and the magical wolf, the flesh gulper! But aardwolf is no cross between those two species. This hunter is closer to laughers of the wild, the Hyenas. Much like its cousin the hyena, aardwolves are nocturnal. Meaning that they do most of their activities at night and will rest in the daytime.  But here is the twist with the aardwolf, similar to the aardvark, this beast feast on termites! Yes, they too love termites. The aardwolf has a long tongue which allows him to easily lick up termites at night.
Aardwolf Habitat
If you want to see the aardwolf, you would probably have to visit Eastern and Southern Africa. There the animal moves through the shrublands hunting insects, especially termites.

Aardwolf Diet
The aardwolf is a lower species of the hyenas, one would believe that this wolf type animal would dine on femurs and skulls. But the aardwolf is mostly interested in insects, especially termites. The aardwolf will seek out the termites fortress and devour over 200,000 termite in one sitting. The Aardvark does not destroy the termite mound while feeding, because It often returns to the same mound for hunting.

LifeSpan
The Aardwolf will live up to 15 Years in Captivity and 10-12 years in the wild.

Aardwolf Body Structure
  • Weight 8 to 14 KG
  • Body Length = 55 to 80 Cm
  • Height = 40 to 50 CM

Temperament
The aardvark is basically a shy animal, but that doesn't mean you should go pet one. The aardvark does not approach any other animal and would prefer to run away than stand and fight.  Apart from aggressive encounters, territories are maintained by means of depositing (pasting) secretions from the anal gland on grass stalks. Both sexes scent mark (paste), although males mark more than females. Pasting occurs on average more than two times per 100 m moved and about 200 times per night.

Gestation / Reproduction
Do you take this aardwolf to be yours, till death do you part? Well that is the relationship between male and female aardwolves. This class of ant eater normally lives a monogamous lifestyle. An aardwolf will normally produce 1-5 litters a pop. The Gestation period goes from 90 to 110 days. Young aardwolves usually reach sexual maturity after two years. Aardwolf breeding season is normally between autumn and spring.

After the cubs are born, they spend a little time with their mother in the den until they have gained enough nutrient and strength to see the bigger world. This den confinement last between six to eight weeks. When the cubs come out, they will be foraging food, but the Mother will be their guide until they are independent.

Aardwolf Predators
Wild dogs and humans are the main predators of these termite eating hyenas.

What Sound Does The Aardwolf Make?
  • Deep Growl
  • Roar
  • Clucking
The sounds are used to warn away predators as well as other aardvarks trespassing in another's territory.

Aardwolf Diseases
Like many wild animals, parasites such as ticks and fleas will be a factor.
