Silver Back Gorilla
Silver Back Gorilla
Gorillas are wonderful animals. And they are really not to be messed with, especially the silver back gorilla. Gorillas are usually strong, fearless and very robust creatures. They live in packs like lions where you have a alpha male who has the sole right to copulate with the females. Then there are the younger males who if they seek to copulate they will have to challenge the alpha male for the right to do so. Silver backs are very strong and can easily crush a human skull with it's bare hands.

Africa is There Home

If you plan on visiting Central Africa anytime soon or live in Central Africa, you will sure to see these magnificent beast in the forest feeding on vegetation, grooming each other and sometimes just going gorilla. The spectacular Gorillas dwell on the ground but will do a small amounts of climbing. They are predominantly herbivorous.  But lets get one thing straight, when we mention Silver-back Gorilla, we are talking solely about male gorillas of central Africa as the females are not silver backs and are simply known as Gorillas. The males have silver hair that grows on their backs as a marker. The hair mainly runs from the lengths of their bodies right down to the gorilla's huge hips. Even though Gorillas can climb trees, they prefer to dwell on the ground in communities of up to 30 individuals. These troops are organized according to  social structures. Troops are led by one dominant, older adult male, Troops also include several other young males, some females, and their offspring

The Silver back is the protector of his troop of gorillas and will definitely take on any attack on his troop. If he is defeated, then the victor will assume ownership of the troop of gorillas and may choose to destroy any other young males present in the troop to start his own line of off springs.

Lifespan Of A Silver Back
If a silver back is not hunted down and killed by humans, the silver back would normally live for up to 40 years.  Enjoying a nice rich "foresty" type of life.  The silver back can weigh over 155 Kilograms and can stand tall at 1.7 meters. If you asked me, that silver back is a walking mass of muscle and power.

Gestation Period

When a female gorilla is impregnated, the gorilla will take up to a total of 250 days before giving birth to either a male up coming silver back or a female gorilla.

Socialization Within The Silver-back Gorilla Troop

Life can be quite good and easy going withing the social structure set up by the silver back. It is simple, the eldest and strongest male lead, watch and protect the troops. While the female tend to the offspings and show love to the male.  The silver back and his troop usually do not venture into areas inhabited by other troops as that could mean trouble. The leader organizes troop activities like eating, nesting in leaves, and moving about the group's 0.75-to-16-square-mile (2-to-40-square-kilometer) home range. If the silvebak is challenged, he will go into his Gorilla berserk rage and begins his tantrum of beating his chest, charging and barking out ear ripping hoots.
