Cat stuck In tree
So your cat dashes up the tree probably chasing a bird or just running scared from taking a bath. You say to yourself OK, he is a cat and cats are good climbers and jumpers, he should be OK and will come down when he is settled. You wait for hours and notice your cat trying to traverse its way down the tray and seems timid and begins to meow for help. You cat has just got him/herself stuck in the tree and simply is afraid or don't know how to really get down.

The basic science behind cat climbing

When your cat begins to climb up a tall tree, his claws are hooked backwards to him/her and is able to grip on the true and quickly pull himself up. When the cat is going up a true he doesn't look down to see how high or how far off the ground he has climbed. He simply climbs until he feels safe from threat or reaches the canary nest! Now that he has met his objective he turns and looks and says to himself "Huh oh! why did i climb all the way up here and how will i get down!" He then turns to the one thing he knows what to do and that is meowing you for help. What the cat doesn't realize that the same way he went up the tree should be the same way he comes down, by climbing tails down allowing his claws to grip the tree and gradually traverse his way down. Big cats like jaguars have mastered this approach when it comes on to climbing trees. many times they also have to bring large preys into trees to avoid loosing their meal and simply to save some for the next day. If the tree is not a giant per say, they can easily traverse the tree branches until it is safe to jump to the ground.

So Why Do cats get Stuck In Trees
  1. They don't know how to climb down backwards.
  2. They become scared of the height and will not risk jumping.
  3. The tree is not "branchy" enough and has no low hanging branches which makes it easier to jump to the ground.
  4. Something maybe down there which they are scared of such as a barking dog or unfamiliar people.
  5. They may seem stuck but may not be stuck at all. Cat may be just chilling and we think it is stuck. Give them some time.

What to Do If the Cat Is Stuck in the Tree
Well, it can be a simple process of getting the cat down or it can be a difficult and even dangerous one. If the cat is stuck and you are a adult and a good climber. You can take the risk and go get the animal yourself. If you do decide to take the risk and climb the tree, ensure that you have some sort of safety items such as a helmet, old bed or something to help cushion a fall. Call someone else as backup in case anything goes wrong. You do not decide to go get the animal yourself then you can do the following:

Call the local fire department
  • firemen are our local heroes and as long as they are not engaged in a fire emergency, i am sure they will be more that happy and willing to come and rescue your stuck cat.
Find a Tree climber
  • This is an actual service that may be listed in the directory or online. You can hire a professional tree climber to well, climb the tree and retrieve your pet for you.
  • Call a neighbor
Call the local Animal facility
  • See if they have any ideas on how to get down your cat. They may just have certain emergency numbers available for you to call
Whats the worst case scenario?
Well if you really need to know the truth right? If you ct gets stuck in a tall tree and decided to risk coming down and does so improperly he could fall and break a limb or worse. Once you know you cat is stuck in the tree, have your cellphone ready to call upon anyone who can assist. keep your eyes on your cat until help arrives.
