5 Animals Your Cat Will Hunt As Food

Cat PredatorThe Cat, the Predator
One thing many cat owners seem to forget is that the feline at home is a small version of the feline in the jungle. No matter how much we domesticate animals, there are just certain instincts embedded into their genes which makes them who they are. Cats are no different, in fact, cats have much more predatory instincts than most animals. They were born to be predators and predators were meant to hunt their food. Even though you loving fur-ball me be years in domestication, don't believe she/he won't gobble down the next little chicken it lays its eyes on. With that being said, here is a list of 5 animals your cat will hunt as foods (Animals located in or near the home)

Rats
  • There have been tonnes of cartoons which depict the rat as one of the cats delicacies. If you have a couple rats around the home or have a pet rat or hamster, your cat's natural predatory instincts will tell it's brain that they smell like something which belongs in his belly and your cat may go after them. There are some large rats which may put up a little resistance to smaller cat breeds, but in the end, the rat will be on the cats plate. To your cat, the rat makes great cat food.

Birds
  • "I tawt i saw a putty cat" guess what tweety?, you did and he plans to have you for lunch. Cats will hunt and try to catch small birds. As a matter of fact, next to some good ol' rat, birds legs will suffice quite nicely. Cats will hunt and eat birds such as budgies, parrots, small chickens, and just about any other bird it can maneuver.  Birds are also used in cat foods we buy in stores.

Fish
  • If you are a cat and fish owner, i am sure you may have just walked in the door and see your cat mesmerized by Nemo swimming happily around in his tank. Then you might take a pic and post it online tagging it like" How cute, cat protects fish while fish swimming happily" Huh huh, you are mistaken my friend, your cat is just studying its preys movements and formulating a plan to have his water loving buddy in his tummy. Fish is also used in many cat foods sold in stores.

Lizard
  • Yep, your cat just loves those house geckos and other round the house lizards.  If you are a reptile lover and have tiny reptiles around, you can be sure that you will be missing a few in numbers if you have a domesticated cat around. The thing is that felines and reptiles don't mix. If you have a large reptile, it will try to eat your cat! If you have a small reptile, the cat will try to hunt and eat it. But one thing for sure is that the lizard is naturally hunted by the cat and makes up your cats backyard food.

Rabbits
  • Don't take your eye off that Savannah running around with your bunny in the yard and cuddling and pretending to like Easter! He is simply playing with its food as most felines normally do before the strike. Cats like rabbit meat and they do see these carrot and lettuce lovers as preys. They will hunt and eat these Easter jumpers.

So the next time you see your loving feline taking a sweet liking to any of these animals which you may have as a pet, you better watch that sneaky cat closely as he is not thinking friend but food!
