For those new cat owners who have just opened their mouth wide at the headline of this article. Yes, you will need to bath your cat. How often depends on the cat surroundings. If your cat is a total indoor cat well you can probably bath him at least once per month, while outdoor cats may need to bath longer depending on the outside environment and the cat's outdoor activities. When you do decide to give your feline a bath, here are some simple steps to make the process a bit easier.

Ensure Correct Water Temperature.

The water temperature should be at least room temperature.  Never bath your cat in any water near hot or you will end up having cat soup that day. Don't go dousing your cat in water too cold that will end up leaving your cat shimmering. This can cause health issues with your cat. As a matter of fact, if you have ever bathed a baby, you probably have a understanding about correct water temperature and its importance.

Select The Proper bathing Container and shampoo

This is also very important as well. If you know the character of your cat and cats overall, you would know that they do not like to feel contained in tiny spaces. Choose a shallow bathing tub that your cat can stand in and feel comfortable. Deeper containers may cause your cat to panic and feel like they are stuck in a claustrophobic area.
Ensure that the water level is right, begin bathing your cat with just enough water to be above it's feet. Put your cat in the tub and let cat play around in there for a few seconds to get accustomed to the bath. It will eventually get use to the bath and think it is fun. It is a good idea to groom your cat while bathing and ensuring that you are using a shampoo that may not be irritating to your cat. Natural herbal cat shampoos are recommended.

Nervous While Bathing
If your cat seems a bit uneasy while bathing, try and see if you can calm him down by distracting him from being bathe. This can be done by implementing some sort of toy to keep his mind occupied while you continue to bathe your cat.  Another cat bathing motivator is giving your cat a few yummy cat treats when he baths.

How to wash your cat in the cat bath?
  • Don't pour the water over your cat or dunk her, instead use a wet cloth and dab your cat with it over his or her fur while playing with it in the bath.

  • When his/her coat is soaked entirely, squeeze some shampoo in your hand, then use the other hand and rub them together and then begin to gently massage in the shampoo into your cat's coat. Ensure that all areas are fully shampooed. From top of head to neck, back sides, under belly and between claws. Many cat owners sometimes forget that their cat comes with a tale and totally ignore this part from washing. Ensure that your cat's tale is properly washed also. Try not to get the shampoo in your cats eyes as this may cause them to become a bit uneasy.

  • When you have shampooed completely, begin to gently wash your cat starting from the head and back then underbelly and tail. When you are sure that no sud is left in your cats fur, take your cat towel and begin to dry the head and back sections of your cat.

  • Remove the cat from the bath and place on a none slip mat or towel and begin to thoroughly dry your cat. Once thoroughly dried, you can begin to brush and perfume your cat, turning him or her into the most handsome cat on the block.

Now that you have all the necessary tools to bath your cat, its now up to you to go turn little stinky to little sweety. Happy cat bathing.
