Why Cats Like Fish: Cat Going Fishing When you were a kid (probably you still are) and saw those Sylvester, tom and Jerry and ally cat cartoons, you would normally see those cats digging up a rubbish bin and coming out with a half eaten fish or you would see cat owners giving their cats tuna to eat. However, if you do a lot of research into why cats like fish, you will sure to come by articles stating that Egyptians were the first to domesticate cats by using fish to lure them into their domain, then simply capturing the animal and start their process of domestication. Well, one thing for sure is that the Egyptians must have known that cats already liked fish to use it as a lure to catch cats and domesticate them.
But the reason why cats like fish is not because the Egyptians used it as lure for the cats. Cats like fish because they simply do, they had to eat fish for centuries. Cats are natural carnivores and will eat various types of meat kind. If you check on the statistics of certain carnivores and you see what they naturally hunt is what they naturally like to eat. The theory regarding how the Egyptians used fish to lure cats into domestication bears little water. What actually happened was this: A civilization were having some bad rat problems. They tried everything they could to get rid of the rats which were carriers of diseases. One of the leaders of this civilization had a brilliant ideas of bringing in cats to hunt, catch and eat the rats. everyone agreed upon this and it was very successful. When the rats were finally gotten rid of, the people fell in love with the cats and the cats simply stuck around. They were so many cats and the people needed meat to supplement for all the rats the cats fed on. They were people of the sea and their main source of meat was fish. So they simply fed that cats what they had. These people did this for centuries upon centuries and as such, off-springs from the domesticated cat were born with a inclined liking for fish. That my friend is the real reason why cats like fish.
