1. Take the Size of Your Dog Into Consideration
Big dogs will need to eat much more food than small breed dogs, hence a larger dog bowl will be needed for bigger size dogs. You need to ensure that the bowl you buy for your big dog is capable of holding the right fill to full your dogs’ belly. Even though we know a dogs stomach is never full. Small dogs will need smaller size dog bowls, even though they still can eat out of larger bowls, but they may not be comfortable eating out of larger or deeper bowls as their necks may not be long enough to eat properly.
2. The Bowls Depth.
When looking for a food bowl for your dog, ensure that the bowl has enough depth to contain the dog food when poured in. Not saying that the depth must be a diver’s paradise, but you don’t want to purchase a dog bowl and as soon as you begin to pour food into it the food begins to tumble out the dish.
3. Dog Food Bowl Material
Not all materials are made equal. Some plastic materials are harmful and contain harmful chemicals which may slowly poison your dog if they continue to eat from it. Remember dogs lick their bowls clean and they will lick the plastic poisonous bowl also. Your best bet for a good material bowl is to get a stainless steel metal bowl.
4. Fast or Slow Feed Bowl
If you dog chows down too fast and sometimes chokes on his food, you can get a slow feed dog food bowl. This is not a bowl with a slow hand putting in one dry dog food at a time in your dog’s mouth, but rather how the bowl is shaped to limit how much food the dog can pick up at once.
5. Portable Dog Food Bowl
You have the option of buying your dog a portable dog food bowl. Whether you're taking your dog for a walk or setting out on a 3-day hike, you need to make sure your dog has access to food and fresh water. Rather than carrying your dog's bulky bowls around, consider buying a set of portable dog bowls. Portable dog bowls should be lightweight, collapsible, and quick-drying.
Do you wash your dishes after you eat? Of course you do. So why would you not wash your dog’s food bowl when the dog finish eating. Always keep your dog’s food bowl nice and clean. This will prevent any form of bacteria build up. You can wash the bowl with regular dish washing liquid.
Keep a Separate Bowl for Drinking
- I don’t drink from my plate so I don’t expect my dog to drink from its food bowl. Get a separate water bowl for your dog. If you have the cash, you can get your dog a dog water fountain. Remember, your dog needs to feed to keep healthy and happy. Having the right dog food bowl is essential to feeding your canine pal.
