For those dog owners who pay attention to our dogs and understand the cycles of dogs, we know what happens when dogs go into heat. But for the less knowledgably about dogs and heat i will provide a brief explanation. When dogs mating time comes around and they seek out partners to copulate with it is said that they are in heat. Why do they call it heat? Because the female dog becomes so hot for her male counterpart probably. But Estrus, or heat, is the stage in a female dog's reproductive cycle during which she becomes receptive to mating with males. At this time, estrogen levels first increase and then sharply decrease, and mature eggs are released from the ovaries.
How Do You Know Your Dog Is In Heat?
Your female dog may begin to start urinating more often than usual and may appear a bit more agitated. If there is a male dog around, your female dog may exhibit or initiate sexual advances towards the male dog. She may prop up her tail and turn her butt to the male dog signalling that it is time to get naughty. Your female dog will first have vaginal discharge, blood-tinged.  The discharge will then decrease in amount and is straw colored. You can then get some female dog diapers for your dog when she begins her heated period.

How often does a Dog see period or go in Heat?
Well, your female dog may go into heat at least every six months. That makes her a horny little dog twice per year. The bad thing about female dogs being in heat is that they don’t last as long as their male counterparts. Female dogs may stay in heat for approximately 10 days. While the males may still be attracted to them after that time frame but there will be no cookie cutting after that.

Why female dog diapers?
Well, some dog owners hate the fact that their dog, especially an in-house dog may bleed inside the house. It could be that the dog bleeds on the chair or even on the carpet. This bleeding occurs during her heat. The dog diapers will ensure that the bleeding is contained within the diapers.

Not all of these conditions are detectable in a growing puppy, and it can be hard to predict whether an animal will be free of these maladies, which is why you must find a reputable breeder who is committed to breeding the healthiest animals possible.  They should be able to produce independent certification that the parents of the dog (and grandparents, etc.) have been screened for these defects and deemed healthy for breeding. So How Accurate is The Dog DNA Test?
Well, there are many who have used the test and have been quite pleased with the results. They have found out the true ancestory of their canine companion. But in all honesty, the only true test is for you as the dog owner to get the DNA test and apply that to your own dog. From my own experience, I have used the Kit and is quite pleased.

My wife and I had gotten a dog which looked more like a cross between a golden retriever and a German shepherd. We weren't sure what the true breed of the dog was and it was just up to everyone looking at the dog and speculating.  We decided to get a Dog DNA Test done and used the product from EMBARK. We did the mouth swab, enclosed the swab and sent it off. The results were amazing. The Dog was 73% Labrador retriever and get this, 27% Rottweiler! That was amazing for us as this dog was quite playful and very friendly and expressed no temperament of a rottweiler.

So you see, it is quite simple to find your dog true information. All you need to do is:
  1. Order the test online.
  2. Activate it
  3. Swab the cheek of your dog
  4. Mail the sample back to the Embark lab in a pre-paid return envelope.
  5. In two to four weeks, you'll receive the results
