Pros And Cons Of Pet Ownership

1/23/2016

Picture
In the United States alone there are over 80 million cat owners and over 70 million dog owners. There are however much more dog owners than cat owners. Each cat own tends to have two or more felines living with them. I myself have had several pets living with me at once. Once i had two cats, birds, a fish and a dog. Sadly, my cats passed away, so did the fish and i now have two dogs and a fish (Sounds like a movie title) One thing for sure is that if you have never owned a pet, you are missing out on one of the greatest feeling. A feeling of love and care for an animal other than a human species. Our pets are special to us, when we take them into our homes they become part of the family, they become our child or our next child, they become our total responsibility. But are we really doing justice to animals by having them locked away in our human worlds so we can love them whenever we want? What does the ultimate form of love for an animal really represents? Shouldn't that be total freedom? You can find negative and positive in many situations, and pet ownership comes with its own dark clouds too. Lets now look at some of the bad and good in owning pets.

Pros Of Owning A Pet

You give an animal a chance at life
There are thousands of pets adopted each year. This is a good thing as these adopted animals will be placed in homes where they are loved and care for instead of being put down.

You Share A Mutual Love

No one can deny the joy that animals bring to us, especially dogs and cats. Once you take care of your pet, they will do the same for you. They have a natural healing aura which surrounds them and it passes from pet to pet owner

The Animal doesn't have to Scavenge for food and get hurt
Can you imagine how much dead animals we would have if all pets were to go hunting and scavenging for food. Domestic farmers would have an headache and of course many of these pets would end up getting shot.

Animals Are Quite Helpful
Domesticating animals has brought forward pet owning. It has also brought about special pet training, such as a guide dog, rescue dog or a police dog. Many blind people have guide dogs which help their mobility. Many dogs are quite handy also around the home, they fetch things, play and even work (sled dogs)

Cons Of Owning A Pet

The Animal Will Never Truly Feel or Be Free
Unless you are massive acres of land where your pet can run free and wild then you are actually imprisoning your dog. In our minds, we are pet owners and we take care of our dogs, we give them food, water and a place to sleep. But do we leave the gates open? There are some animals that have never seen nothing but the side of their home. When good dog owners decide to give the dog a little breezer, they place the dogs on leaches and walk or jog with them. Animals natural instincts is to be free, explore the unknown and have fun. If you should not use a leach, that animal could not contain himself, he would be all over, running, sniffing, digging holes any and everywhere. He has just taste what freedom feels like.

May Become Expensive To Maintain
You don't just go out and get a pet and then order the biggest cheese pizza, eat it all off while looking in your starving pet's face. You must ensure that your pet is well fed. Other than food expense, you must ensure your pet receives the proper medical care and treatment when necessary. So put aside your vet money.

Me Time Cut Short
Your me time will cut short as you may just have to put in a lot of hours with your pet (Depends on what kind of pet) Pet care will come in this a lot.

Conclusion

So if are you planning on owning a pet,  you have the above to consider when you make your decision. When you adapt or purchase your pet, ensure that you pencil out all the negative effects of owing a pet and then tick all which you can live with. If you are comfortable, then go pick out your new companion.
