The Tosa is a breed of dog of Japanese origin that is considered rare. It was originally bred in Tosa as a fighting dog and still is today. The Tosa is a very strong and very alert dog which makes it a good guard dog. The Tosa is very loyal dog, It pay very close attention to commands given to it and executes them promptly. If you are looking for a dog breed which barks a lot, well the Tosa is simply not for you. The tosa likes it a bit more quiet and is more of a action type than mouth piece.  This natural guard dog is protective, courageous and fearless. It needs an owner who knows how to display leadership at all times.

How Much Does The Tosa Dog Weigh?
The Tosa weighs in at an average of 85-200 Lbs and has a height of 22-24 inches

How Long Will The Tosa Dog Live?

The Tosa Dog has an expectancy life span of 10-12 years

Heath Factors
Both parents should have the following certificates: CERF (eyes) and OFA (hips and elbows). Also prone to bloat.  Bloat can be a major problem in these large dogs. A Dog will experience bloat if the dog's become filled with gas, food, or fluid, making it expand. The stomach will eventually place pressure on other organs, causing them to either malfunction or fail. Bloating may lead dangerous problems, including:
  • No blood flow to his heart and stomach lining
  • A tear in the wall of his stomach
  • A harder time breathing

Exercising The Tosa Dog
You can't go wrong allowing your Tosa to go on daily walks, jog or even runs if your heart allows it. The tosa like many other dogs needs to be exercised and will certainly make a good jogging companion.

Grooming
Not much to do here when it comes on to grooming your Tosa dog. All you need is imply to brush the dead or loose hair away. Regular schedule dog bath is good too, but nothing out of the ordinary for this big dog. This dog is not a heavy shedder.

Feeding

Always remember not because your dog is big, he requires tonnes upon tonnes of food. Ensure that you feed you dog twice daily and that it gets enough healthy foods to see it through. Raw meat is great for these dogs as well as fish oil supplements.
