Yorkie Dog
Yorkshire Dog
You can do nothing but simply love and admire this beautiful looking dog. It sports silky long coats which is very pleasing to many dog lovers’ eyes. Anyone who has studied the history of dogs knows that many dogs were bred for specific purposes, the Yorkshire is no exception to that.  It is an English bred dog and was bred specifically to rid textile companies decades ago of rats and other Small vermin. But fast forward into today's age where these beautiful dogs are more show and companion dogs. But even as companion dogs, they still possess that natural agility, alert and playfulness and will require lots of exercise. If you plan on owning a Yorkie, or have already acquired one, here are a few basic tips for caring for your Yorkshire dog which will make him/her and you the owner very happy.

1. Exercise
Most dogs require a natural walk or run time. Take some time out from your busy schedule to ensure that your Yorkie remains fit and healthy by giving the dog long walks or runs. I can assure you that you just may burn out before your short legged friend. If you have a nice open fenced backyard, which is even greater as dogs simply love to let go and be free. Toys also help in giving your dog the much needed exercise it needs.

2. Bathe your Yorkie
Yes, dogs do get dirty and need a bath. Many say animals don't bath in their natural environment. But whenever you take certain animals out of their natural environment where they have nature to give them all they need and put them in a controlled environment. You have just taken up the role of nature and hence great doggy responsibility.  Bath your dog to get rid of dander and keep the animal clean, you can schedule your bath time to at least once per month. Don't over bath your dog as this too can lead to bad circumstances.  Too much bathing can cause dryness and irritation and may even damage their beautiful fur.

3. Cut The Yorkie's Hair
The Yorkie sports a lot of hair, tall hair, and fluffy hair. You have to b prepared to cut and groom your dog's hair on a regular basis. If you leave your Yorkshire hair uncut and ungroomed you will soon have a dreadlocks Yorkshire sitting in your couch getting high off listening to some Bob Marley music.  Leaving your dog's hair uncut and ungroomed will make your Yorkie hair will get tangled and overtime become matted. Once you have a Yorkshire dog, ensure your trimming and dog grooming kit is always nearby.  But please, do not try to become a artist by experimenting designs on your poor dog. If you know you are a buffoon with trimming and cutting tools, talk to a professional dog groomer.

4. Trim the nails
Yes, underneath all that hair is nails! Nails they use to scratch dig and grip. If the animal is a total indoor animal, does not dig holes in the yard, has nothing to scratch away his nails on, chances are that they may grow too tall and will need to be cut. Overgrown nails in dog can cause discomfort and the dog may even begin to gnaw at them in effort to trim them his/her self. Cut your Yorkshire nails at least every 3 month.

5. Brush The Yorkie's Coat
This is part of keeping those long air untangled. This is also part of the grooming process.  The dogs really like when their coats are being brushed. It is kind of like doing a little doggy massage. You may just put your Yorkie to sleep.

6. Feed the Yorkshire
What did you think, small dogs don't like food? Even though Yorkie's are not a total fan of their stomachs, they do require good nutrition to keep them healthy. I always recommend a mix of raw and dried foods.  Dogs are natural carnivores and hence meat eaters and lovers. Give your dog it's full feed at least once or twice per day depending on how much food the animal consumes.  Hydration is very important, so leave a fresh bowl of purified water for your dog. Small dogs can eat bones too, throw your Yorkie a nice bone every once in a while and allow him to gnaw away his life! It will help in teeth cleaning and promotes strong teeth.

7. Top-knotting The Yorkie's Head Hair
If you love and notice many Yorkies, you would see many times bows and other ornament on the top of the Yorkie's head. It is not just for hair decoration but to keep the Yorkies long head hair from covering its face. The hair will grow and begin to hang over the dog's eyes, this of course will be a problem to the animal. So most Yorkie owners thought it would be cute to simply knot the hair or use some hair holding objects like bows, bands etc.

8. Vetting Your Yorkie
Ensure that your dog gets the regular vet visits to ensure that it is safe from old and any new diseases susceptible to dogs. Your vet will also check the dogs, weight and structure to ensure the dog's health is on the right path.

9. Play With Yorkie
You cannot really call yourself a dog owner or lover of dogs if you have not done  a few floor rolls with your dog. Yorkshire love to play and owners who play with their Yorkie realize a much stronger bond. Go ahead, go roll with your doggy pal.

10. Provide Simple Training
If you want your Yorkie dog to follow the basic commands when it gets a bit too frisky, your best bet is to teach your Yorkshire dog some basic dog commands. Commands such as SIT, STOP, GO, COME, WAIT. If you can teach your Yorkshire dog thee 5 basic commands, you will be an even more happy Yorkie owner.
