What on God's earth did you give your dog to eat? Your grandpa's old sock, your ex's fingernails, or maybe some spoiled food? But you can't pinpoint what your dog has eaten which is causing him/her to have a Diarrhea. So really, what would cause your dog to suddenly have diarrhea? Well lets look at some causes:
  1. Rotten Food
  2. Stomach Infection
  3. Getting a hold and eating foreign substances such as pills left on table.
  4. Gas
I have taken my dogs to the vet about 2-3 times in five years for diarrhea.  My dogs are outdoor dogs and are fund of nature and digging. They chew up a lot of things and eat fruits off our fruit trees. One of the times when my small shipoo had diarrhea it was because she ate over 12 ripe mangoes off the tree. They love to lie under the cool trees in the back yard and just have a ball. They will eat mangoes, guava and a couple shoes now and then.  After a couple visits to the vet, i learned a few common ways to treat diarrhea in dogs. So the first thing you must do if you notice your dog watering down the place with dog poo is to stop feeding your pet for the next twenty four (24 hrs) Don't worry, your dog will not starve to death in a day.  But not giving the dog food doesn't mean not feeding the animal. Ensure that your pet is kept hydrated with clean and cool water.

If you knew what may have caused the dog to be experiencing running belly, it would be good. As this may allow you to treat the animal more effectively.  However if you are unsure you can do a few minor things to treat the dogs diarrhea.  But if you had changed your dog's feed from his/her original brand or type food and you notice this development in your dog. Simply stop feeding the animal the new food and revert to the original brand.

So What Should You do If Your Dog Has Diarrhea
  • Stop Feeding The Dog for at least 24 Hrs
  • Ensure that the dog keeps hydrated
  • Boil a few mint leaves, ensure it is mild and give your dog to drink.
  • When introducing foods after the 24 Hours, do it in small parcels.
  • Do not give the dog it's usual food
  • Give the dog bland of food such as chicken and rice, turkey and potatoes
  • Give the bland of food to the dog for up to 2-3 days until stool becomes hard
  • Monitor your dog's progress daily
  • If diarrhea persist after 3 days of doing the above. Consult Your Vet.
