What Can Dog Whistles Do

Have you ever seen hunting dogs chasing the poor fox in the bushes and swiftly behind them is a horseman following the dogs to wherever they lead? Then when he is ready to gather the dogs back together he pulls out what looks like a metal cigarette and blows in it and all the dogs ears tune into that no sound whistle and run back to the man on the horse? Well, what that man just blew is what is called a dog whistle.
How Dog Whistle Works
A dog whistle is also called a Galton whistle or the Silent whistle because us humans do not hear sounds which are emitted in ultrasonic range. But this ultrasonic range can be heard quite clearly by animals such as dogs, wolves, bears, cats etc.  This whistle was invented by Francis Galton in 1876.  The dog whistle does not emit low Khz ranges, but instead emits higher rangers from 23-55khz. This is above the range of normal human hearing as our ears have a higher frequency of 15-20Khz. When ever a human is hearing a dog whistle blow, they may just hear a little hiss.  But the dog will hear that call loud and clear.

Advantages of Dog Whistle

1. Training
Dog whistle are not heard by humans. This makes it a great tool for training dogs without having a screaming whistle being blown which will affect nearby people and even the trainer.

2. Deter Other Animals
The frequency of dog whistles can be heard by other animals such as cats, deer, bats etc. You can probably use this dog whistle to deter other animals or even break up a dog attack on someone or dogs fighting.  This can be done because some dog whistles come equipped with adjustable sliders which can be used to create different frequencies when blown. These frequencies can affect the dogs positive or in a negative way.

Dog Whistles For You

What Kind of Dog Whistle Should You Buy
If you are just a regular dog owner who have dogs that roam freely in wide open backyard or in the country area. You can get a simple dog whistle which will alert the dogs to come to you. Instead of calling all the dogs name or go looking for them, simply have their foods ready, blow the dog whistle signalling them to come and that is it.  One of my favorites is the ONSON Dog Whistle. This whistle can be used to call your pooch or blown to stop dogs from barking. It carries an adjustable pitch in black color with FREE Premium Quality Lanyard Strap.

Using the dog whistle is simple. Here are a few pointers on how to get the best out of your new dog whistle.

1. Use In Training.  The whistle is great if your dog has a hard time following any verbal commands.  This is great for grabbing the dogs attention. Use the whistle along with the spoken command for better response.

2. Decide What Your Whistle Blows Mean.  Blow the whistle in specific ways to associate it with a specific behavior. For example, if you want your dog to sit. You can use two short blows. If you want your dog to come, two long blows etc.

3. Practice Becomes Perfect. In everything you do, it takes time and effort. If you want your dog to adapt to what the whistle say, it will take practice and a bit of patience on both sides. Practice your whistle blows, eventually your canine buddy will grow to understand distinctively what each blow means. But remember, if you have chosen a pattern of whistle blows, stick to it and let it soak in you and your dogs brain before making any other changes.
