Puppy EatingPuppy Eating
Its is a natural thing, many people choke on their foods, luckily for some it is not life threatening. Just as it is in the human world, so it is in the puppy world. Puppies are cute adorable little critters and there is always a proper feeding habits which pet owners must adhere to when feeding your pup. Here are my five tips to prevent your puppy from chocking while when eating.

Food size
this is critical, you have o ensure that the size of each part of the food presented to the puppy is small enough that even if not chewed properly and it slides down its throat, it can be easily swallowed and not block any air way. For this same reason is why you have dog food different that puppy food.

Feed Regular
You must feed toy puppy regular and not once a while. You don't want when you bring your puppy food, he is so hungry that he has chow down too fast

Don't Pet or Play With While Eating
If it is only one thing i know about dogs is that they love to eat. But puppies love to play, ensure that you do not indulge your puppy in any playful activities while feeding. He may get too excited and begin to chow down too fast or play while eating which may result in your puppy choking.

Not Too Hard Food
Ensure that whatever you place in your puppy's plate is bite-able and chew-able by puppy standards. Don't force the pup to try and swallow large chunks because his little mouth is tired and unable to chew any further.

If The Puppy Does Choke Then What?

If you follow the above guidelines that is OK, but that alone may not deter a natural choking crisis. If you are feeding your puppy and you notice that the dog begins choking, do not panic immediately:
  • Allow the animal to try and correct the issue on its own for a couple of seconds, you jumping and grabbing the puppy could only make the situation a lot worst.

  • If you see the puppy still struggling, pick up the puppy rear end first so what ever is stuck in track will not be pushed further, try and give the pup a couple slaps at the back between both shoulder bones.

  • If that doesn't work take the animal to the nearest vet immediately!

  • Never try to push your fingers down the puppies throat to feel the object unless it is in clear site and can easily be pulled out.
