With all the mosquito viruses going around, such as Zick V, Dengue fever and Chikungunya, care should be taken on your part to not only protect yourself from mosquito bites, but also your pet. Animals are much more vulnerable to mosquito bites as many times when they are just not sensitive enough to kill or run away a buzzing mosquito. Mosquito target the softer areas of your pet when they are biting. They will suck from the eyelids, nose ears and face of the dog mostly, any where where they will not contend with a lot of fur. So as a pet owner, you need to practice mosquito control to ensure that your dog is not a sitting duck when it comes on to mosquito bites. Remember that mosquitoes are vectors for disease, namely heart worm in dogs. So you must absolutely ensure that you keep your dog away from as much mosquitoes as possible.

Mosquitoes like to rest in cool shades of the tall grass, that is why when you walk through certain ares with tall grass your feet and legs get pulverized with mosquito bites.

  • Use Natural Mosquito Repellent
Mosquito hate the smell of lemon eucalyptus oil and if they smell that scent around, they will try to avoid that ares and look elsewhere for blood. Always try the best you can to go green when using any chemicals. Always ensure also that any chemical used around you dog is not harmful to the animal. Natural repellents are the best solution.

  • Ensure your home is Hygiene Friendly
Dispose of garbage in tied bags and ensure that the yard is always properly cleaned and garbage is not lying anywhere around.  Mosquitoes are also attracted o trash for some reason and if they find that you are a hoarder, chances are you have become a mosquito breeder.
  • Ensure Your Pet Is Properly Vaccinated
Ensure that you follow all the stages of vaccination for your pet so that it will build up a good immune system to mitigate and fight certain illnesses.

After you have completed all of the above pointers on keeping your dog safe from mosquito viruses, all you need to do now is to monitor, keep on feeding your dog the best nutrition and keep on hugging and loving the animal and both of you should be just fine.
